About Lighthouse Philosophy
Why this project exists and who's behind it.
The Mission
Lighthouse Philosophy exists to make philosophy genuinely approachable. Not dumbed down — approachable. There’s a difference.
Philosophy has a reputation for being dense, jargon-heavy, and reserved for academics. That reputation isn’t entirely unearned. But the questions philosophy asks — What is real? What can we know? How should we live? — belong to everyone. You don’t need a degree to think deeply about the things that matter.
This site is built around cornerstone articles: comprehensive, carefully written guides to the major branches and historical traditions of philosophy. Each one is designed to give you a real understanding of the subject, not just a surface-level summary. Think of them as the chapters of a book you can read in any order.
Who’s Behind This
My name is Jay. I’ve been working on this project, in one form or another, for several years. Philosophy isn’t my profession — it’s my passion. I believe the best way to learn something is to explain it clearly, and that’s what I’m trying to do here.
More details coming soon.
What’s Next
The cornerstone articles are the foundation. From here, the plan is to build out smaller “deep dive” articles under each cornerstone — exploring individual thinkers, concepts, and debates in more detail. Eventually, this content will also become the basis for a YouTube series.
